Five Minutes with Fry (Ep 3): Well Intention vs Impact

Five Minutes with Fry (Ep 3): Well Intention vs Impact

Everyone has great intentions when doing community service, service trips abroad, helping the homeless, being in vocal in conversations about race and LGBT rights, and so on, but intent is not enough-impact has to be considered. Many times people think their intent is enough and disregard the painful impact their intent leaves. Did they only do the service projects THEY wanted to do which isn't sustainable for the community? Did the person will privilege take up space with their voice instead of those will the experiences talk?

We have seen communities or color further marginalized by a disregard of intent. A disregard of the voice of those who the assistance will be affecting. Poverty Inc. is a great film that explains the cycle of poverty and how those how are trying to "help", are actually continuing the cycles. Take 5 minutes to watch this! You will thank me later when you are planning that service trip.
